During the Primetime Emmy Awards on September 19, 2021, HBO Max dropped a sizzle reel for their upcoming slate of programing. It included the first official footage from Peacemaker, starring John Cena in the role he originated in The Suicide Squad.

Joined by titles like Dune and The Matrix Resurrections, the sizzle reel offers a brief look at multiple new shows and movies. For Peacemaker, HBO Max shows him getting out of his muscle car, barring the license plate “PSS-MKR,” then sees him joining friends at a restaurant, and taking target practice. When one of his dinner mates asks Peacemaker why he is wearing his costume at the restaurant, he pointedly tells them that it’s not a costume, “it’s a uniform.”

Peacemaker follows the events in The Suicide Squad after the patriotic villain/antihero was shot by Bloodsport and found by John Economos and Emilia Harcourt, who recruit him to save the world.

Cena is joined by Steve Agee as John, Jennifer Holland as Emilia, Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Robert Patrick as Peacemaker’s father, Auggie Smith, Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase/Vigilante, and Chukwudi Iwuji as Clemson Murn. The Suicide Squad director James Gunn wrote all eight episodes of the series and directed five of them. The series will premiere on HBO Max early in 2022.
