Journey to the Center of the Earth actress Arlene Dahl died on Monday, November 29, 2021. She was 96 years old.

Her son, actor Lorenzo Lamas, announced her passing on social media writing, “Mom passed away this morning in New York. She was the most positive influence on my life. I will remember her laughter, her joy, her dignity as she navigated the challenges that she faced. Never an ill word about anyone crossed her lips. Her ability to forgive left me speechless at times.”

Dahl played Carla Göteborg, one of the explorers who travels deep into the Earth in the classic 1959 sci-fi adventure Journey to the Center of the Earth. She branched out from acting to become an author, beauty industry entrepreneur, and astrologist.

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on August 11, 1925, Dahl’s film debut came in 1947’s Life with Father. Her first starring role came later that year in My Wild Irish Rose. From there, she was in Three Little Words, Scene of the Crime, and Here Come the Girls.

She started writing the beauty column “Let’s Be Beautiful” in ’52, which ran for 20 years. In ’54, Dahl created Arlene Dahl Enterprises, her cosmetics and lingerie lines. Her businesses in the beauty industry continued to thrive through the ‘60s and ‘70s, then she created a psychic hotline in the ‘80s. Dahl also wrote over 20 books on beauty and astrology.

After Journey to the Center of the Earth, her acting career slowed down for those other pursuits. Some of her later acting roles were in Burke’s Law, One Life to Live, The Love Boat, Renegade, and her final onscreen role was in Air America in ’99.
