A new heroine is on duty in Gotham City. In the Heights actress Leslie Grace shared the first official in-costume photo as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl for the upcoming Warner Bros./DC film.

Grace tweeted the photo with the message, “I use their expectations against them. That will be their weakness. Not mine.” She went on to write, “Let them all underestimate me…And when their guard is down, and their pride is rising, let me kick their butts.”

Batgirl is an origin story that will show Barbara, daughter of Police Commissioner James Gordon, evolve into a superheroine.

J.K. Simmons returns to the role of Commissioner Gordon, which he originated in 2017’s Justice League. Brendan Fraser has signed on as the villain Firefly, Michael Keaton is set to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne, and Jacob Scipio is set for an undisclosed role.

The film is directed by the Bad Boys for Life team of Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, and is written by Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey, The Flash). Batgirl is currently in production and will be released on HBO Max. A premiere date has not been announced yet.
