Another comic has surpassed the $1 million sales mark. On May 21, 2022, Goldin Auctions sold a copy of Detective Comics #27 CGC 6.5 for $1.74 million. This sale set a new record for Batman’s first appearance, surpassing the CGC 7.0 copy that realized $1.5 million in November 2020.

Detective Comics #27 first reached $1 million in 2010 with a CGC 8.0 copy. The recent sale is the sixth time Batman’s debut sold for more than $1 million.

Goldin’s auction had two other top sales featuring the Caped Crusader, including Batman #1 (with the debuts of the Joker and Catwoman) CGC 4.0 that went for $336,000 and one graded CGC 1.5 that achieved $103,200.

Spider-Man’s first appearance in Amazing Fantasy #15 CGC 8.0 hammered for $450,000, and Superman #1 CGC 2.0 (the Man of Steel’s first self-titled book) reached $264,000. Additional highlights were Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 (first TMNT) for $192,000 and X-Men #1 CGC 1.5 (origin, first appearance of the team) for $121,200.

In the original art offerings, the cover of Showcase #24 by Gil Kane, featuring the third appearance of Green Lantern, brought $108,000.
