CGC is making a change to their labels that will reduce the number of defects that appear on the label. Currently, defects listed on the label are also present in the grader notes, but now that CGC members will have free access to those notes, CGC is removing certain defects from the label.

Defects that will no longer be listed on the label include stickers, Siamese pages, punch holes, staples added after manufacturing, staples removed, detachments, fully split spine, tape, significant missing parts from the cover, lamination, miscuts, and puzzles or coupons filled out. CGC labels will also no longer use the terms “incomplete,” “affects story,” and “does not affect story” when parts are missing from the comic’s interior.

The defects that CGC will continue to note on the label include any significant missing pieces, pages, wraps, or inserts from the interior of a comic. Labels will also continue noting restoration, conservation, and qualifiers like married parts, color copies, wrong parts, coverless comics, individual wraps and pages, multiple covers, additional inserts, and unverified signatures on the cover.
