Pac-Man, the pellet-munching video game hero, is getting his own live-action movie. Bandai Namco Entertainment, the company that developed and owns Pac-Man video games, is behind the project, along with Wayfarer Studios.

The movie is based on a concept by Chuck Williams and is being developed by Tracy Ryerson. It will be produced by Justin Baldoni, Manu Gargi, and Andrew Calof for Wayfarer Studios, and Williams and Tim Kwok will produce for Lightbeam Entertainment.

Pac-Man was created by Toru Iwatani in Japan and introduced to US arcades in 1980. The game features a clearcut design with the player leading Pac-Man as he tries to consume all of the pellets in the maze before being killed by the ghosts.

The popular game expanded with other titles like Ms. Pac-Man, home consoles, and tons of merchandise. Pac-Man has also starred in two TV series, including a Hanna-Barbera series on ABC and a Disney XD series.
