Frank Miller has been tapped to create, write, and executive produce a limited TV series based on Hugo Pratt’s Corto Maltese.

The series will adapt the 1967 fantasy comic about a sailor embarking on adventures around the world. Miller will develop the six-episode live-action series with StudioCanal and Canal+.

“I first discovered Corto Maltese reading the books at Forbidden Planet in New York as a young man. Then on my travels, I studied and discovered an edition at a newsstand in Rome. The artwork was so expressive and so bold that it leapt off the newsprint. It swept me away,” Miller said in a statement.

Miller will executive produce the series with Silenn Thomas and Jemma Rodgers, and the project will be overseen by Ron Halpern and Francoise Guyonnet for StudioCanal. Visual effects will be overseen by Phil Tippett whose credits include Return of the Jedi, RoboCop, and Jurassic Park.
