The Mike Wieringo Comic Book Industry Awards that celebrates the creativity, skill, and fun of comics has named the 2023 jury. The comics industry publishers, journalists, and creators selected for the jury are Troy-Jeffrey Allen, Richard Case, Amy Chu, Abby Denson, and John Petrie.

Case has been illustrating comics for over 30 years, including a celebrated run on Doom Patrol, Sandman, Preacher, Shade the Changing Man, Sensational Spider-Man, and Batman ’66. He is currently the Lead Concept Artist at Ubisoft/Red Storm Entertainment.

Chu is a comics and animation writer who is currently working on the Borderlands miniseries and Carmilla: The First Vampire. She recently worked on the Netflix anime series DOTA: Dragon’s Blood, Rick & Morty, and Archie. Her work at DC and Marvel has included Wonder Woman, Poison Ivy, Deadpool, Ant-Man, and Iron Man. She is known for her long run on Red Sonja, KISS comics, and Green Hornet.

Denson is the author of Uniquely Japan, the Kitty Sweet Tooth book series, Cool Tokyo Guide, Dolltopia, and Tough Love. Her comic credits include Amazing Spider-Man Family, Powerpuff Girls Comics, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and Disney Adventures.

Petrie has spent 30 years in the book industry, working and managing retail bookshops. He spent years working at Forbidden Planet NYC, currently works at Valiant Entertainment as a sales manager, and writes the “Queer Comics from a Queer Perspective” column at CBR.

“We always look for new perspectives in our jurors,” Baltimore Comic-Con promoter Marc Nathan said. “Having carbon copies with regard to tastes and background would not allow for the diversity of nominations that you see each year in the Ringo Awards’ Final Ballot, and we expect this year to be no different. This year’s group is a fantastic sampling of professionals in and around comics with a wide breadth of experience and interests, and we’re really looking forward to seeing what they and the fans come up with this year.”

The Ringo Awards will be presented on Saturday, September 9, 2023, during the Baltimore Comic-Con.
