Comic-Con International, aka San Diego Comic-Con, is heading across the ocean to host its first convention outside of the US.
The debut international event will be held in Málaga, Spain from September 25-28, 2025, giving fans throughout Europe and Asia a much shorter commute to enjoy Comic-Con. This is a landmark moment for the comic and pop culture mecha, which, until now, has only been held in San Diego.
Comic-Con International: San Diego is a non-profit organization that began in 1970 as the Golden State Comic Book Convention. The convention began with a focus on comic books then grew to include science fiction and fantasy movies and literature. It has become the biggest comic and pop culture event in the world, welcoming around 135,000 attendees every year.
Málaga is a coastal city on the Mediterranean Sea that is already known for hosting an important film festival. San Diego Comic-Con Chief Communications & Strategy Officer David Glanzer stated that Málaga has modernized facilities and a great cultural scene that makes it a great partner for the first international show.
Comic-Con did not reveal many details about the show, but it is expected to include the same aspects of the flagship event with exhibits, vendors, creator guests, panels, autograph sessions, and reveals for upcoming projects. Announcements regarding guests, programming, and more are expected in the coming months.
