The BRZRKR movie based on the BOOM! Studios comic book has found its director. Justin Lin, the filmmaker who helmed several entries in the Fast and the Furious franchise, will direct the project.
BRZRKR is a hyper violent dramatic/action comic created by actor-writer Keanu Reeves and comic writer Matt Kindt. It tells the story of an immortal warrior known as “B” who has been involved in countless conflicts and wars over the course of 80,000 years. B’s sanity and his memories are a jumbled mess, so he strikes a deal with the US government in which he will go on missions that are too dangerous for regular soldiers in exchange for their help unlocking his past.
Reeves will play B in the movie and produce the project, which will be adapted at Netflix. The script was written by Mattson Tomlin, who has co-written the script for The Batman 2. Adam Yoelin is executive producing and Stephen Christy is producing for BOOM!, Stephen Hamel from Company Films, Lin for his Perfect Storm, and Ross Richie.
Lin’s career started with indie films, then he jumped into big budget territory by directing five of the Fast & Furious movies. He directed Star Trek Beyond, episodes of True Detective, and the pilot for the Magnum P.I. reboot. Reeves was an angel investor on his most recent indie film, Last Days.
BRZRKR has been a huge success for BOOM! Studios. The first issue is one of the highest selling comics of the last decade with over 600,000 copies sold. The entire limited series run, featuring art by Ron Garney, has sold over 3.5 million comics worldwide. In 2024, Reeves and China Miéville wrote a BRZRKR novel that is a New York Times bestseller, and an anime spinoff is also in development.
