Puerto Rican superhero La Borinqueña is showcased in the new exhibit, The Art of La Borinqueña. The event is being held at the El Cuartel de Ballajá (the Ballajá Barracks), located in the Old San Juan area of Puerto Rico.

Created by Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez, La Borinqueña is a patriotic symbol, powered by the history and mysticism of Puerto Rico. She started out as Columbia college student Marisol Rios De La Luz who traveled to the island to study at the University of Puerto Rico. While exploring caves she found crystals that once united call Atabex, the Taino mother goddess, and her sons. They give Marisol superhuman strength, the ability to fly, and power to control storms.

La Borinqueña creator Edgardo Miranda-Rodríguez is leading the new exhibit that focuses on the present and future of the character. The exhibit will showcase original comic pages and covers by artists like George Peréz, Ken Lashley, and John Matos. It will also feature action figures, including prototypes from the first line of figures and the new ally group, V-Gigante, who are based on local folklore and wear horned masks.

The exhibit will be among the inaugural events for Humanidades Puerto Rico (Humanities Puerto Rico), a non-profit organization in support of the arts. It is open now and runs through August 20, 2025; the exhibit hall hours are 11 AM to 4:30 PM on Thursday through Saturday.
