The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #4 (1974) was the first Guide to feature original cover art specifically created for it. The wonderful Justice Society of America illustration by Don Newtwon was one of the first professional pieces created by the late artist, who went on to a distinguished career in comics.

The Guide had only launched in 1970 and was steadily gaining traction in the marketplace on the way to becoming the industry Bible it has now been for decades. The cover of CBPG #1 featured publisher logos (hand drawn by Bob Overstreet in those pre-Photoshop days), and #2 and #3 each featured a montage four comic book covers before Bob made the move to commissioning original art.
