ComicLink’s open Winter Featured Auction offers a large, diverse selection of comic, fantasy, and illustration art. The original art session closes on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, with the first lot going off at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT. This article focuses on original art highlights and a separate article in this week’s Scoop addresses comic book highlights. The comic book lots start closing on Tuesday, February 25 and will continue on weekdays through Monday, March 2.

Original art highlights include Frank Miller Amazing Spider-Man #218 cover, one of only two Miller covers created for the core Spider-Man title; Jim Starlin Life of Captain Marvel #1 cover featuring a memorable image of the Kree Captain; Jack Kirby Fantastic Four #23 and Annual #2 “twice-up” pages with Doctor Doom; Adam Hughes Catwoman #72 cover with a central image of Zatanna, X-Men: Black Emma Frost #1 cover with an image of the White Queen, Defenders #110 cover with Devil-Slayer, and several other Starlin pieces; Brian Bolland Judge Dredd Amazing Heroes #52 cover; Richard F. Outcault Buster Brown Sunday September 24, 1916 rare original work by the father of the newspaper comic strip; John Romita Amazing Spider-Man #365 cover, an homage to Amazing Fantasy #15; and Stan Lee’s How to Draw Comics cover with Stan surrounded by Marvel’s greatest heroes.

Other art highlights include Greg Capullo and Todd McFarlane splash pages from Spawn #41 and #53; J. Scott Campbell Black Cat Amazing Spider-Man #14 cover and design/box art and two Fairytale Fantasy calendar illustrations; John Romita Jr. Amazing Spider-Man #40 complete story with Klaus Janson inks and #55 complete story with Scott Hanna inks, plus Avengers #10 cover with the Infinity Gauntlet taking down Spider-Man and team; Michael Turner Witchblade #1 splash with a large image of Sara Pezzini from her origin story, Fathom #12 splash with Sara Pezzini and her Witchblade, Action Comics #813 cover, and other Turner pieces; Art Adams Years of Future Past #5 cover, a homage to X-Men #141 cover featuring the children of Kitty Pryde and Colossus; Buffy the Vampire Slayer #1 cover to the very first Buffy comic book; Bernie Wrightson prime era calendar illustration and other works by the master of the macabre; Neal Adams Justice League of America #94 page 1 title splash, the only one Adams ever did for the title; and Dave McKean Black Orchid #12 cover collage painting.

Additional original art offerings include Lee Bermejo splash from the Joker graphic novel and cover to Secret Origins #1 with the origin of Superman; John Buscema Thor #193 Silver Surfer battle page; John Byrne Wolverine #22 cover; Gene Colan Tales to Astonish #78 “twice-up” title splash with Sub-Mariner; L.B. Cole Blue Bolt Weird Tales #115 cover recreation; and Steve Ditko Ghost Manor #6 cover.

Other art highlights include Sebastian Kruger three paintings by the celebrated artist including a famous portrait of the Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood; large Henry Fonda from the film Once Upon a Time in the West; Lee Van Cleef from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly film calendar; Jim Lee Superman #205 double page splash with a huge image of Superman in action, Justice League #1 page from the dawn of the New 52 era; and Sean Murphy Batman: White Knight #1 key page where Batman loses his mind while beating the Joker to a pulp.

ComicLink is now accepting seller consignments for upcoming auctions including the next Focused Auction which launches March 12 as well as the Focused Auction launching in April and the Spring Featured Auction launching in May (previews will post soon). ComicLink will be set up at the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo on Friday, February 28 through Sunday, March 1 at the McCormick Place Convention Center. ComicLink Consignment Director, Douglas Gillock and Sales Consultants, Jon Signorelli and Ross Kearney will meet with clients in booth #1513 and accept consignments for upcoming auctions.
