Bidding in ComicConnect’s Pulp Auction #2 continues this week with a large number of high grade sci-fi pulps, plus numerous classic hero and horror pulps. A Weird Tales (December 1932) 6.5 FN+, containing the first appearance of Conan the Barbarian, leads the pack at a current bid of $8,200.

“A shockingly beautiful VF copy of the Amazing Stories (August 1928), with the first appearance of Buck Rogers, is following closely behind at an incredible $6,200,” ComicConnect COO Vincent Zurzolo said. “First issues, first appearances, high grade copies, and iconic covers make up the other highest bidding pulps. The pulp market is on fire, continually reaching never before seen prices.”

This auction also includes a Rafael Desoto original oil painting for a Black Book Detective (October 1933) issue. Black Book Detective was an edgy mystery pulp, featuring chilling stories and art. This painting is pure classic pulp hero by Rafael Desoto, a Puerto Rican artist who produced covers for many 1930s and ‘40s pulps, including Ace G-Man Stories, Ace Sports, All Detective, Black Book Detective, Champion Sports, Dime Detective, Dime Mystery, Phantom Detective, Popular Detective, The Spider, Ten Detective Aces, Terror Tales, Thrilling Detective, Western Aces, and Western Trails. This cover depicts a bold macabre image of a skeleton closing a casket on a man who has succumbed to the pleasures of the needle. The art is in excellent condition and framed to 23” x 23”.

The auction end-dates are as follows:

Session 1: (books, A. Merrit FantasyMarvel Tales) ends February 9, 2022
Session 2: (Operator #5 – Wonder Story Annual) ends February 10

“ComicConnect has quickly become the premiere destination for pulps,” Zurzolo added. “If you have any questions about buying, selling, or consigning pulps, reach out to Sasha Fraze, ComicConnect’s pulp expert, at sashaf@metropoliscomics.com or (212) 260-4147 (ext. 117).”
