In just a few weeks, Netflix will be opening the door to the Keyhouse estate and inviting viewers to try and unlock the many secrets held within. The adaptation of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s hit IDW series, Locke & Key, will debut on February 7, 2020. But just how much do you know about the curiosities within the estate and the residents that now call it home?

The plot, which is presented in non-chronological order, opened with the six-issue miniseries Welcome to Lovecraft in 2008. This series follows Tyler, Kinsey, and Bode Locke as they relocate with their mother to Lovecraft, Massachusetts after the murder of their father. As the young children explore the dark family estate, known as Keyhouse, they uncover supernatural secrets lurking in the shadows.

Throughout the subsequent miniseries, it is revealed that Keyhouse is built atop a portal to another dimension, filled with demons who have the ability to mesmerize and possess any who see them. To combat the demons, young Benjamin Locke forges a variety of magical keys to seal the entrances to the dimension. Unfortunately, an incident led family friend Dodge to become possessed by a demon hellbent on recovering the powerful keys and taking over Keyhouse.

Featured keys used or referenced across the series include the Omega Key, Ghost Key, Echo Key, Anywhere Key, Head Key, Gender Key, Shadow Key, Giant Key, Mending Key, Animal Key, Music Box Key, Skin Key, Angel Key, Philosophoscope Key, Hercules Key, Bitey Key, Splody Key, Reali Key, Alpha Key, Harlequin Key, Chain Key, Age Key, Timeshift Key, Key To The Moon, Owl Key and Plant Key. While many secrets of the keys and Keyhouse have been uncovered, countless questions still remain. Fortunately, it seems fans of the series will have the chance to see these answers unfold on their TV screen.

After eight years of failed attempts to adapt this beloved series, Netflix is bringing the horrifying world of Keyhouse to the small screen. As described by the streaming service, Locke & Key “is a horror-fantasy series that revolves around three siblings who, after the gruesome murder of their father, move to their ancestral home in Massachusetts only to find the house has magical keys that give them a vast array of powers and abilities. Little do they know, a devious demon also wants the keys, and will stop at nothing to attain them.”

Debuting on February 7, 2020, the series stars Darby Stanchfield (Scandal) as Nina Locke, Jackson Robert Scott (It) as Bode Locke, Connor Jessup (American Crime) as Tyler Locke, Emilia Jones (Horrible Histories) as Kinsey Locke, Bill Heck (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs) as Rendell Locke, Laysla De Oliveira as Dodge, Thomas Mitchell Barnet as Sam Lesser, Griffin Gluck (American Vandal) as Gabe, and Coby Bird as Rufus Whedon.
