Quantcast

Yolanda Montez, aka Wildcat, has cat-like agility and claw-like fingernails that she gained before she was even born. The DC heroine who has worked with Infinity Inc., the Justice Society of America, and the Shadow Fighters, was created by Roy Thomas, Dannette Thomas, and Don Newton.

Introduced in Infinity Inc. #12 (March 1985), her story began when her mother Maria Montez and her mother’s sister were given experimental drugs while they were pregnant. The sisters traveled to Mexico and ended up giving birth on the same day.

Back in the US, Yolanda’s superpowers manifested when she was a child and she grew close to her godfather Ted Grant, the superhero Wildcat. Years later when Ted was injured while saving a child, Yolanda assumed his superhero mantle. At first Ted is unhappy to see someone using his name until he learned that it is his goddaughter, and he gave her his blessing and guidance.

She joined Infinity Inc. and helped to free the people of Markovia from Psycho Pirate’s influence. Later after she had retired, Yolanda returned to being a superhero to fight Eclipso. She teamed with Steel, Peacemaker, Major Victory, and Creeper to infiltrate the country where Eclipse had made his base, but the powerful villain killed several of them, including Yolanda. She didn’t stay dead for long, because her body was retrieved by some of her teammates, and she was resurrected by a witch.
