Raquel Ervin, aka Rocket, is a Milestone Comics character with the power over kinetic energy and auras. Created by Dwayne McDuffie and Denys Cowan, Raquel was born in Paris Island, the poorest, harshest neighborhood in Dakota.

Introduced in Icon #1 (May 1993), Raquel wanted to be a writer, but couldn’t find the right subject until she met Augustus Freeman, a lawyer who was secretly an alien with superpowers who was stranded on Earth. She encouraged Augustus to become the superhero Icon and she became his sidekick, Rocket. Icon created a belt using materials from his escape pod that gave her the ability to manipulate kinetic energy.

Her superhero adventures weren’t always based in powers. She became a mother and helped Flashback from the Blood Syndicate to fight her addiction to crack cocaine. Rocket also became friends with fellow Dakota superhero Static and though they had a “will they, won’t they” storyline, the pair remained just friends.
