The “Crisis on Infinite Earths” five-episode Arrowverse crossover has finally arrived with huge sacrifices, great DC film and TV cameos, some painful losses, and a big cliffhanger. Kevin Smith has hosted two after-show specials to unpack what has happened in “Crisis” and what’s to come. The Tuesday, December 10, 2019, installment featured the first trailer for The CW’s next DC series, Stargirl.

Geoff Johns, the character’s co-creator and the show’s executive producer and showrunner, was there to introduce the new show and the clip. It will follow high schooler Courtney Whitmore who is forced to move from Los Angeles to Nebraska when her mom remarries. She soon learns that her new stepfather, Pat, was once Stripesy, the sidekick to the JSA’s Starman. In the trailer she finds Starman’s cosmic staff, which responds favorably to her touch, and takes on the mantle of Stargirl.

During the Crisis Aftermath segment, Johns shared that Stargirl is the first character he wrote in comics and he created her in his first comic book. “She was inspired by my late sister, so it means a lot to me personally to have come off the page and onto the screen like this, and to work with the crew and the cast that I did. It was amazing,” Johns said.

Stargirl is set to debut in spring 2020. Brec Bassinger is playing Courtney/Stargirl with Luke Wilson as Pat Dugan, Amy Smart as Barbara Whitmore, and Joel McHale as Starman.
