A story of returning home combined with witchcraft is told in Mamo. The five-issue debut comic series by cartoonist Sas Milledge (The Lost Carnival: A Dick Grayson Graphic Novel) introduces a young witch who confronts a mysterious magical disturbance after going back home.

Orla O’Reilly is the youngest in a line of hedge witches who heads back to her hometown after her grandmother, Mamo’s, death. Since Mamo died, magic in the town has become chaotic and a poltergeist has set up shop in Jo Manalo’s attic. Jo seeks Orla’s help, and the hedge witch gets pulled into the town’s complicated relationship with the Fae while Jo learns about the world of magic.

“I am so excited to finally share Mamo with the world! This book has been circling around my head for the better part of a decade, and I’m so glad it has finally landed here in its final form; a story about family and friendship filled with witches, birds, faeries, and trolls,” Milledge said.

Mamo #1 features a main cover by Milledge and variant covers by Trung Lê Nguyễn (The Magic Fish) and Veronica Fish (Sabrina).

“Sas Milledge has magicked into existence an exciting new world for us to explore, filled with the most delightful witches, magic, and mystery,” BOOM! Associate Editor Sophie Philips-Roberts said. “Mamo is a fresh new take on the modern witch, and also, an insightful look at what it’s like to grow up, move away, then come home as an adult to deal with family and legacies long forgotten.”

The first issue of Mamo will be in comic shops in July 2021.
