On Star Wars Day, aka May the Fourth, Disney and LucasFilm revealed the new “real” lightsaber through a short promo video for Walt Disney World Resort’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.

The 13-second video shows a young woman, presumably a Rey actress for the attraction, turning to the viewer while holding the hilt of Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber and firing it up.

“Yes, that’s a new type of lightsaber Rey is holding in her hand, created by Walt Disney Imagineering Research and Development,” Disney stated via the Disney Parks Blog. “Guests who experience Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will be the first to see it in action – along with so much more – starting in 2022 when this amazing new two-night adventure debuts.”

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is billed as an immersive experience where guests will stay in a hotel designed like a Starcruiser and spend the trip in the world of Star Wars.

“Watching that lightsaber activate right before your eyes will be just one of the countless ways that, from the moment you arrive to the moment you depart, you’ll be plunged into a Star Wars story where your decisions and actions – or even the casual conversations you may have – determine how your personal journey unfolds,” Disney’s blog post continued.

The hotel is set to open in 2022, though an exact date has not been announced yet.
