The highly anticipated Aquaman sequel has been given its official title. Director James Wan revealed that the follow up to the popular 2018 film will be titled Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Wan broke the news on Instagram with a photo from a production meeting.

Jason Momoa is set to return as the titular hero with Amber Heard and Patrick Wilson expected to be back as Mera and Orm, respectively. David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick is returning to write the script. In addition to directing, Wan is producing the movie with Peter Safran.

Other details about the synopsis and cast were not disclosed. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is currently slated for release on December 16, 2022.

It joins other upcoming DC films that include The Suicide Squad on August 6, 2021, The Batman on March 4, 2022, Black Adam on July 29, 2022, The Flash on November 4, 2022, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods on June 2, 2023. Additional movies in the works will feature Batgirl, the Green Lantern Corps, Supergirl, Static Shock, Blue Beetle, and Wonder Woman’s third outing.
