Minnie Driver is joining the magical world of The Witcher on Netflix in The Witcher: Blood Origin, the prequel series based on the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski. She recently shared details about her character on social media, including that she’ll be playing Seanchaí, the show’s narrator.

Driver tweeted, that her character is “…a shapeshifting collector of old lore with the abilities to travel between time and worlds. Very few of her kind remain. She brings long forgotten stories back to life when a world needs them most.”

Her character’s ability to “travel between time and worlds” means that she has Elder Blood and is therefore a descendant of the elven sorceress Lara Dorren. Blood Origin has not revealed much about her character yet, however it’s been reported that she will be a key figure connecting the show to the main Witcher series.

The Witcher: Blood Origin is set 1,200 years before the main series and after the Conjunction of the Spheres, which saw the worlds collide and humans and magical creatures entered the Continent.

The series will introduce new characters that don’t appear in Sapkowski’s novels or the video games, including the heroes Scian (Michelle Yeoh), Éile (Sophia Brown), and Fjall (Laurence O’Fuarain).

The Witcher: Blood Origin drops on Netflix on December 25, 2022.
