Quantcast

Can you imagine what it would be like to have a one-of-a-kind item associated with one of the most popular characters ever created?

Captain Marvel, the World’s Mightiest Mortal (aka “The Big Red Cheese”), was created by artist C.C. Beck and writer Bill Parker and first appeared in Whiz Comics #2 (#1) in 1940.

This is the only known copy of the 1941 Adventures of Captain Marvel six-sheet serial poster. The linen-backed poster, which measures a whopping 79” x 79”, has a superb action scene with Captain Marvel lifting a large scorpion figure over his head.

It was, of course, created to market the 12-chapter, black-and-white Republic Pictures movie serial, which starred Tom Tyler as Captain Marvel and Frank Coghlan, Jr. as Billy Batson, his alter ego. Produced by Hiram S. Brown, Jr., and directed by John English and William Witney, the serial was Republic’s first to be adapted from a comic book (in this case, Fawcett Comics’ Whiz Comics and Captain Marvel Adventures).

There are a lof of fantastic Captain Marvel comics and other comic character items, but as far as we know, there’s only one of these.
