This issue opens on the first day of school when Johnny spots Daniel talking to Ali and his jealously is stoked once again. He embarrasses Daniel, which prompts another fight, and later we see Johnny trying to talk to his not-so-nice father about winning Ali back.

There isn’t a lot of new ground covered in the second issue, but writer Denton J. Tipton does give a little more insight into young Johnny. His two male role models are both bullies, which provides context for his own perspective. What’s interesting is that in the first issue, Johnny is almost portrayed sympathetically. Here he’s pretty much just a bully. But, there’s still plenty of story to tell.
