When Nancy Drew helped Joe and Frank Hardy find who killed their father, they uncovered a criminal organization called the Syndicate. Though the case was closed, Nancy was convinced that the Syndicate was still active and while investigating she was killed in a car accident – supposedly.

It was ruled an accident, but Joe didn’t believe that and started his own investigation into her death, which brought him face to face with Nancy herself, alive and in hiding. Also, Frank knows she’s alive and now Joe is angry. Nancy confesses to Joe what had happened and the steps she’s taken to find who tried to kill her. With Joe now on board, the hunt for killers and criminal masterminds makes more headway – and adds more danger and peril to their lives.

Anthony Del Col is writing an enjoyable story. It’s a more serious, noir take on Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys, but the aesthetic works. They are still teenagers, but more world weary and jaded, though still inherently likeable. The mystery at hand is twisting all around town and at this point just about anyone could be pulling the strings. I’m certainly hooked.
