In his first assignment as Sheriff of Georgia Space Sector, Malcolm Reynolds is investigating murder and corporate espionage. Determined to find a murderer and help downtrodden employees, he’s kicking the beehive that is Blue Sun Corporation. Also, there’s an unknown assassin after Mal and Boss Moon.

Someone from Blue Sun has shown up in Mal’s town to “give away” new tech to the citizens. Tech that collects information on their surroundings, adding to Blue Sun’s already expansive surveillance network. Add in a few more twists, like Inara being targeted by the assassin and the specter of the outlaw Chang-Benitez Gang – who Mal’s crew is now masquerading as – and the situation is quite messy.

This arc of Firefly has taken the space cowboy story into spy thriller territory. What started as a small time murder investigation has grown into a whole conspiracy power trip. Greg Pak is still doing a great job penning the title by bringing the TV show characters to life with accurate interpretations of their personalities and dialogue. He’s also writing good stories that have action, emotional hooks, and moral quandaries.
