The current Black Widow series has done something fairly radical to Natasha: it gave her domestic bliss. She was the Widow, but after an altercation, she woke up believing she was an architect named Natalie with a fiancé and a son. This was all fabricated by a group of Nat’s greatest enemies who took it one step further in issue 3 and now, with assassins filling her home, all the old instincts return.

Seeing Nat as a “regular” person in this series, written by Kelly Thompson, has been disorienting. Now, as the pace is picking up, it’s exciting to see her ready to kick butt again, but also kind of sad to see her perfect normal life disintegrate. It’s setting up some serious action given how this issue ends on top of the emotional impact.
