Sitcomics Binge Books; $3.99

I’m a big fan of the zombie genre. I remember nightly local news updates during the filming of George Romero’s Dawn of the Dead. I ended up seeing it at the theater 19 times, and my own comic Zombie-Proof is a love letter/fan letter to Romero.

That said, I’m not the kind of purest who believes that all zombie stories have to have the same tone. For instance, even though I’m clearly insane for Dawn of the Dead, I have a real soft spot for the 1940 Bob Hope comedy The Ghost Breakers.

So, as we approach what may well be an overload of The Walking Dead franchises, it’s good to remember that not all zombie tales are dire.

That brings us to Z-People #1, the latest Binge Book offering from Sitcomics.

Just flipping through the issue, my first reaction was straightforward: “Zombies meet MAD magazine!” And then I checked, and sure enough, artist Tom Richmond does indeed have a background with MAD. And writer/creator Darin Henry (Seinfeld) captures the artistic vibe brilliantly.

The issues also included a story from horror host Barbra Macabre, a character who successfully blends Stephen King with Dr. Seuss, in a tale written by Henry and illustrated by Marvel veteran Al Milgrom.

It only compounds the enjoyment of this issue that it’s a full, double-sized issue, completely packed with story and art, for a cover price of $3.99, like all the Binge Books. Definitely more than worth checking out if you’re so inclined.
