Writer-artist Howard Chaykin is teaching a series of two-day intensive workshop-seminars in three locations throughout June. “Graphic Design in the Service of Narrative: the Building Blocks of Comic Book Storytelling” will be held at Wizard World Philadelphia, Society of Illustrators in New York City, and Wizard World Sacramento.

“I solemnly promise two days of enlightenment, illumination, and at least two laughs – at least one of which will result from seeing how much greyer and fatter I am than I am used to be,” Chaykin said.

He will demonstrate his approach to creating sequential art, how he crafts storytelling, and offer critiques to students.

“The seminar conducted by Mr. Chaykin was tremendously worthwhile. Howard is a master storyteller and he is also masterful at teaching his storytelling techniques,” said Uncanny Avengers artist Ryan Stegman. “I feel like my work jumped many levels after the seminar.”

The first workshop will be held at Wizard World Philadelphia on June 1-2, the second at the Society of Illustrators in New York City on June 6-7, and the final at Wizard World Sacramento on June 16-17.

The two-day workshops will be held in two, four-hour segments on two consecutive days. Assignments will be given during the first day to be completed overnight. Only 15 students will be admitted for each class. The workshops cost $500.
