New York Comic Con (NYCC) has made a significant announcement regarding buying tickets for the show on October 6-9, 2016, at the Javits Center in New York City. The goal is to eliminate the practice of scalpers buying tickets to resell them, ReedPop, the show's promoter, has said. This year they are requiring "Fan Verification."

In order to get tickets, those interested in attending must fill out a Fan Verification profile. It means that the ticket buying process will be more intensive, but the company hopes that that tickets will be purchased by fans, not those who only plan to resell them at a profit. The window to fill one out starts Friday, May 20 at noon ET and runs through Monday, June 13 at 11:59 PM ET.

In Fan Verification, interested attendees must provide their name and email address, which will give the opportunity to purchase tickets. Fan Verification profiles must be filled out whether you are buying a ticket for yourself or someone else is buying it for you. You can fill out one Fan Verification profile per email address and each fan can only have one profile. All fans 13 years of age (at the time of NYCC) and older must fill out a Fan Verification profile. This means that if you have a 12-year-old child who will be 13 by October, he or she needs a profile.

Once the Fan Verification profile is filled out, you will receive a confirmation email. NYCC will contact interested potential attendees if their accounts are cancelled or if they have questions about the profile.

Filling out a Fan Verification profile does not guarantee NYCC tickets, however. They will still be sold on a first come, first served basis. The website does encourage those interested in attending to take their time filling out the Fan Verification profile as incomplete ones will be cancelled.

Once you have filled out a Fan Verification profile, you will receive an email (about 48 hours before tickets go on sale) with a unique link to purchase tickets, according to ReedPop. Note, NYCC will not announce the date tickets go on sale until 48 hours before ticket sales are live, so it is important to pay attention to emails from the con.

Ticket types include four-day, three-day, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Sunday Kids Tickets. They are not offering VIP tickets.

Each fan can purchase up to four tickets per type (four-day, three-day, single day) and 12 tickets total. Each ticket must be tied to a person who filled out a Fan Verification profile. To purchase tickets for other people, you must include their email addresses that were used on their individual Fan Verification profiles. So, if you want to buy tickets for yourself, your spouse, and your child, you will request the number and type of tickets, then assign the tickets using your email address, your spouse’s email address, and your child’s email address. If you wish to buy a ticket for a child who is 6 to 12 years old you will note that in your Fan Verification profile, and it will be noted in the link you receive from NYCC that you are purchasing a ticket for a child.

Once you create a profile you have 14 days to assign friends or family members to tickets or make changes if there are any typos in their names or email addresses.

Tickets are not transferrable, cannot be upgraded, are non-refundable, and cannot be resold.
