Erin Moran, the actress best known for playing Joanie Cunningham on Happy Days, died on Saturday, April 23, 2017. Authorities in Southern Indiana responded to a 911 call after she was found unresponsive. The actress was 56 years old.

From 1974 to 1984 she played Richie Cunningham’s little sister Joanie on Happy Days. Set in the 1950s in Milwaukee, the series followed straight-laced Richie, his family, and his bodies as they navigate adolescence. She continued as Joanie in the spinoff Joanie Loves Chachi in the early ’80s, starring opposite Scott Baio.

Moran was born on October 18, 1960 in Burbank, CA and signed on with an acting agent when she was just five years old. She made her credited film debut in How Sweet It Is in 1968 and played Jenny Jones in the series Daktari from ’68 to ’69. Moran guest starred in The Courtship of Eddie’s Father, My Three Sons, Gunsmoke, and The Waltons. She guest starred in The Love Boat in the early ’80s then acted sporadically, appearing in Murder, She Wrote, Diagnosis Murder, played herself in Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star in 2003, and her last role was Not Another B Movie in 2010.
