The Marvel shows on Netflix have not shied away from telling dark stories with some of their hard-edged superheroes. Now, they have shared the first trailer for the show based on one of the toughest, baddest antiheroes in Marvel.

The trailer for The Punisher opens with dream-like flashes from an earlier, happier time. But that is quickly shattered and Frank Castle sets out to avenge his family. What follows are flashes of bloody violence, textured shots of gear, and the blind determination of the Punisher set over the sound of Metallica.

Jon Bernthal as the Punisher was introduced to the shared universe of the Marvel Netflix shows in 2016 on the Daredevil season two premiere. He quickly became a popular character with fans hoping for a solo series and now Netflix and Marvel are delivering.

In addition to Bernthal, The Punisher stars Jason R. Moore as Curtis Hoyle, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as David Lieberman/Micro, Michael Nathanson as Sam Stein, Jaime Ray Newman as Sarah Lieberman, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, and several others. The air date has not been definitively announced.
