Following the addition of L.A. rapper Marvin “Krondon” Jones III, The CW has just cast another musician for the upcoming DC Comics Black Lightning series. Grammy Award winning singer Jill Scott will play villain Lady Eve on the superhero drama.

While Lady Eve appears to be an ordinary funeral parlor owner, she is secretly working to combine Jones’ Tobias Whale with a secret group of corrupt leaders in Freeland. A decision that quickly makes her an adversary to Cress Williams’ Black Lightning.

“Jill is an amazing artist who can embody any character and give them an authentic voice that is both nuanced and richly complex. I am excited to see her in the role of Lady Eve,” said showrunner and executive producer Salim Akil in a statement.

Scott previously voiced Storm on BET’s Black Panther animated series, in addition to roles on Why Did I Get Married, Steel Magnolias, Fringe, and Being Mary Jane.

Black Lightning, developed by Salim and Mara Brock Akil alongside Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schecter, follows a retired superhero with who suits back up when his daughters and his community are threatened.

Black Lightning will debut in 2018 on The CW.
