A film is now in the works at Sony that will focus on the Marvel character Morbius the Living Vampire, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film will expand the cinematic universe based around Spider-Man.

The Morbius film is being written by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, who previously partnered on the script for the 2017 Power Rangers film. Morbius first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #101, a creation of writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane. The character is a scientist, Dr. Michael Morbius, who suffered from a blood disease and tried to cure himself – but instead ended up giving himself a form of vampirism.

Sony has been working on developing films that are closely connected to Spider-Man; a Venom feature film is also in production. It is currently unknown, however, if these movies will be connected to a Sony-produced Spider-Man film or the Marvel Cinematic Universe in any way.
