Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first teaser trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. In the second installment of the new film series set in the world of Harry Potter, Newt Scamander moves from New York to Paris, apparently on the orders of a familiar wizard.

The film producers have teased that the sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be a bit darker and larger than the first film, which is proven in the teaser. It comes in at just under two minutes and is filled with magic, mystery, and of course some new fantastic beasts.

The trailer introduces some new characters like Leta Lestrange and younger faces on familiar characters like Albus Dumbledore. Newt’s muggle buddy Jacob Kowalski is back, along with witch sisters Tina and Queenie Goldstein. We’re also given a brief shot of Gillert Grindelwald looking no less dangerous despite his gaunt appearance.

It appears that Dumbledore has given Newt the mission of stopping Grindelwald, though it seems that Aurors of the Ministry of Magic are on the hunt for Newt. During one clandestine meeting, Dumbledore tells Newt “I can’t move against Grindelwald, it has to be you.” This could allude to Dumbledore’s past relationship with the dark wizard or to the fact that the Ministry is already watching him closely.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is set for release on November 16, 2018. It was written by series creator J.K. Rowling with David Yates returning to direct the sequel. Eddie Redmayne returns as Newt, along with Dan Fogler, Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, and Johnny Depp reprising their roles. Jude Law joins the cast as the young Dumbledore and Zoë Kravitz as Leta Lestrange.
