During the World Cup march, the universe called. Did you answer? Casual viewers and Whovians alike were just given with the first official teaser for the upcoming season 11 of BBC’s long-running science fiction series, Doctor Who. Ahead of the premiere this fall, which sees Jodie Whittaker pick up the mantle as the Thirteenth Doctor, BBC offered another glimpse of Whittaker in the role of the Time Lord.

The final moments of last year’s Christmas special, during which Peter Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor regenerated, featured the first official look at Whittaker. Much like that finale, Whittaker’s Doctor appears at the tail-end of the teaser. Whittaker’s casting marks a new era for the show, not only because she is the first woman to play the Doctor, but this new season sees Chris Chibnall (Broadchurch) take over for long-time showrunner Steven Moffat.

Although the show’s creators had frequently discussed the idea of having a woman play the Doctor, it was ultimately Chibnall’s decision when he took over the show. Back when the casting was first announced, Moffatt told the Radio Times that “[Whittaker] will be brilliant as the Doctor.”

The cast and crew of Doctor Who are attending Comic-Con International, and will hopefully divulge more information about the upcoming season.

Season 11, starring Whittaker, is expected to premiere in October 2018.
