The nominees for this year’s Game Awards have been announced, with plenty of obvious choices as well as surprises in many of the categories.

Six games are up for Game of the Year, which will go to recognize “a game that delivers the absolute best experience across all creative and technical fields.” The nominees are Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Celeste, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Monster Hunter: World and Red Dead Redemption 2.

Nominees for Best Ongoing Game – a game that provides ongoing content and evolves the player experience over time – are Destiny 2: Forsaken, Fortnite, No Man’s Sky, Overwatch, and Rainbow Six: Siege.

Other categories this year include Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, Best Score/Music, Best Audio Design, Best Independent Game, Best Mobile Game, Best VR/AR Game, Best Action Game, Best Action/Adventure Game, Best Role-Playing Game, Best Fighting Game, Best Family Game, Best Strategy Game, Best Sports/Racing Game, Best Multiplayer Game, and others.

There’s also the Best Performance award, which goes to a voice actor for their video game voiceover work, and the Games for Impact award, which is “for a thought-provoking game with a profound pro-social meaning or message.”

Fans can currently vote on who they’d like to see win these categories at the Game Awards website. Votes can be placed once every 24 hours, and winners will be announced live on December 6, 2018 during the award ceremony.
