Manly man Jon Cryer has been tapped to play wealthy, power-mad Lex Luthor on The CW’s hit series, Supergirl. Cryer will debut as Luthor in the 15th episode of season four, arriving sometime in 2019, and will then have a recurring role in the Greg Berlanti-produced series.

“We are enormous fans of Jon Cryer, and he was instantly our dream actor to play the iconic role of Lex Luthor,” Supergirl exec producers Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller said in a joint statement. “Jon is a super-talent, and the fact that he played Lenny Luthor in Superman IV brings an added layer of legacy to his casting. We’re beyond thrilled to welcome Jon to the Supergirl family.”

Ahead of his Emmy-winning run on CBS’ Two and a Half Men, Cryer portrayed Lex Luthor’s nephew Lenny in 1987’s Superman IV: The Quest for Peace.

The casting extends Cryer’s relationship with Supergirl producers Warner Bros. TV, for whom he starred in a dozen seasons of the CBS comedy Two and a Half Men. Cryer still has an overall deal with CBS and recently finished working on Big Time Adolescence.

“We’re beyond excited to introduce iconic villain Lex Luthor to Supergirl and to weave him into our story this season,” Rovner and Queller said in an earlier statement. “We’ve talked about having Lex on the show since its inception, and we’re excited to have him finally arrive. We can’t wait for him to shake things up in National City and watch him go toe to toe with not only Supergirl, but his sister, Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath).”

Along with the addition of Luthor, Supergirl is also bringing back Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman and will be introducing Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane. Superman and Lois will appear in this year’s Arrow-verse crossover in December.

Prior to Cryer, Lex Luthor has been portrayed by Gene Hackman, Lyle Talbot, John Shea, Scott James Wells, Sherman Howard, Kevin Spacey, and Jesse Eisenberg in various adaptions.
