CBS All Access has confirmed that Michelle Yeoh will reprise her role as Captain Philippa Georgiou, former ruler of the Terran Empire, in a Star Trek: Discovery spinoff set to air on the streaming service. The new series will center around the character’s adventures as part of the clandestine Starfleet organization, Section 31.

Alex Kurtzman is executive producing the spinoff, with Bo Yeon Kim and Erika Lippoldt serving as showrunners.

“I’m so excited to continue telling these rich Star Trek stories,” Yeoh said in a statement. “Being a part of this universe and this character specifically has been such a joy for me to play. I can’t wait to see where it all goes – certainly I believe it will go ‘where no woman has ever gone before!’”

The Michelle Yeoh-led spinoff is the latest in CBS All Access’ Star Trek ventures. Along with Star Trek: Discovery and the untitled Picard series, the network also has plans for an animated series entitled Star Trek: Lower Decks.

Captain Philippa Georgiou debuted in the pilot episode of Discovery as a mentor to Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green). The character was briefly killed off before returning to the second half of the season via the Mirror Universe.

Yeoh’s Georgiou will return for the second season, which premieres January 17, 2019 on CBS All Access.
