EC’s brand of horror is coming back to the spotlight in two new projects. EC Comics has developed a partnership deal with Hivemind for a Weird Fantasy TV show based on the anthology series and a biopic on EC publisher William M. Gaines.

Weird Fantasy told science fiction and fantasy stories with darker tones, twist endings, and a bit of the macabre. The series boasted the talents of comics greats like Harvey Kurtzman, Frank Frazetta, Wally Wood, and Al Feldstein, among others.

Gaines was an integral figure of 1950s comics during a period when the question of morality in comics was fervently debated. He became a leading voice for free speech and guide to counterculture with the founding of MAD.

Hivemind is the newly established production company that already has the attention of horror fans, via the Netflix series, The Witcher, and the upcoming film Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.

The deal between EC’s holding company, William M. Gaines Agent Inc., and Hivemind aims to give EC Comics fresh material and engage new audiences. Both projects will be produced by Cathy and Corey Mifsud, Gaines’ daughter and grandson, as well as Dinesh Shamdasani, Sean Daniel, Jason F. Brown, and Hunter Gorinson for Hive.
