The streets of Gotham are getting a little bit darker with the rise of a new kingpin in The Penguin. Max released the first teaser trailer for The Batman spinoff series from Matt Reeves.

In The Batman, Penguin (Colin Farrell) was one of Carmine Falcone’s lieutenants, and since the latter is now dead, the Penguin is ready to become Gotham’s leading crime boss. Much of the trailer is centered on Penguin as he tells someone a story about an old school gangster in Gotham who was celebrated by his neighborhood when he died. Intermixed in his speech are scenes of Penguin visiting Salvatore Maroni (Clancy Brown) in prison, Penguin firing shots at his enemies, explosions, and other acts of violence.

The Batman and The Penguin spinoff series are separate from the DC universe that DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are building. They are taking place under the Elseworlds banner, similar to the alternate universe found in DC comics.

Lauren LeFranc is the showrunner and executive producer, alongside other Reeves, Farrell, and others as fellow EPs. The cast also includes Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Myles Humphus, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Michael Kelly, Emily Meade, and Craig Walker.

The Penguin will arrive on Max in the fall of 2024.
