Varada Sethu is going from robbing the Empire to traversing the cosmos. The Star Wars: Andor star is boarding the Tardis as the Fifteenth Doctor’s new companion in Doctor Who. Her casting had been rumored for weeks and now BBC has confirmed that she has joined the British sci-fi series.

Doctor Who will begin airing the first season with Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor and Millie Gibson as companion Ruby Sunday in May 2024. Sethu will join the Doctor and Ruby on their adventures during the second season in 2025. BBC has not provided details on the character she’ll play; however, they did release a photo of Sethu with Gatwa and Gibson during a table read.

In Andor, Sethu played Rebel Cinta Kaz who helped steal payroll from an Imperial facility. She is also known for the series Strike Back, Jurassic World Dominion, and I Came By.

Doctor Who showrunner Russell T. Davies commented that he “first worked with Varada on a BBC production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and it’s a joy to welcome her on board the Tardis. Right now in the studio, shooting for 2025, we’ve got Ncuti, Millie, and Varada fighting side by side – we need all three, because the stakes are higher than ever!”
