In 2025, David Corenswet is suiting up as the newest Superman, kicking off the next wave of DC superhero movies. James Gunn, who is directing Superman, has revealed the first look at Corenswet as the Man of Steel.

In the photo, Superman pulls on his boots while the window behind him shows that Metropolis is under attack. His suit has a color palette similar to the one worn by Henry Cavill, and is notably dirty from being in action.

The new movie will tell the story of Superman’s attempts to reconcile living the regular human life of Clark Kent with his alien heritage as a Kryptonian. The movie won’t tell an origin story, instead it will be set when Superman was already a superhero in Metropolis and he was working as Clark at the Daily Planet.

The movie stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl, María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica/The Engineer, Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason/Metamorpho, and Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mr. Terrific.

Superman is the opening act of DC Studios’ “Gods and Monsters” film series led by Gunn and Peter Safran. It will also include the movies The Brave and the Bold, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Swamp Thing, and The Authority, and the HBO Max television shows Waller, Booster Gold, Lanterns, Paradise Lost, and an animated Creature Commandos series.

Superman is scheduled to debut in theaters on July 11, 2025.
