Tom Cavanagh is returning to The CW for another appearance in their superhero universe. The Flash star will do a guest spot in the fourth and final season of Superman & Lois.

Cavanagh announced his appearance on the show during a panel at Fan Expo Philadelphia. He was already familiar with Superman & Lois, having directed episodes in the first and third seasons. When a fan asked if he’d direct any episodes for the show’s last season, Cavanagh revealed that he would be in front of the camera instead of behind it. Superman & Lois co-creator Todd Helbing offered him a guest starring appearance since they already completed their slate of directors. He did not disclose what role he would be playing.

Cavanagh played multiple roles in The Flash and the Arrowverse crossover episodes. He was introduced as scientist Harrison Wells, who was really Eobard Thawne/Reverse Flash. After the first season of the show, he played several versions of Wells from different worlds, affecting different personas for each Wells. One of those versions, Harrison Nash Wells, would unintentionally free the Anti-Monitor and become the cursed Pariah who was forced to witness the Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Superman & Lois was originally part of The CW’s Arrowverse, crossing over with its characters on Supergirl and other shows. Then in the show’s season two finale, it was revealed that Superman & Lois is in a different universe. This could mean that Cavanagh will play a completely different character. Or they could revisit their Arrowverse roots for one of his well known characters.

The premiere date for Superman & Lois season four has not been announced yet, however, The CW did state that it will be during the 2024-2025 TV season.
