Deadline’s Mike Flemming has reported that Valiant’s Bloodshot is headed to the big screen courtesy of Sony.

“Sony Pictures has closed a deal to acquire Bloodshot, the Valiant Comics series. The deal came out of a spec script written by Jeff Wadlow, who is being paid $450,000 against $1 million, I hear,” Flemming wrote. “Neal Moritz will produce through his Original Film Banner along with Jason Kothari and Dinesh Shamdasani for Valiant Entertainment.”

The character debuted in Bloodshot #1 in February 1993 in a issue that (along with Valiant’s Turok #1) came to symbolize for many the speculator boom and bust of the new comics market at that time. That, however, did not stop Bloodshot from attracting a strong and loyal following. The series ran 52 issues (#0-51) through August 1996 and had two specials, Bloodshot: Yearbook #1 (1994) and Bloodshot: Last Stand (1996).

A second volume in Acclaim Entertainment’s rebooted VH2 universe ran 16 issues from July 1997 to October 1998.
