Ubisoft had plenty to talk about at their E3 2018 press conference, with a new look at some fresh entries in some of their long-running franchises.

The show opened with a lengthy but energetic marching band performance that included a panda mascot and various other colorful characters, which gave way to the announcement of Just Dance 2019, which will be releasing in October of this year.

Next up was a new cinematic trailer for Beyond Good & Evil 2, first unveiled to the public at last year’s show. The trailer highlighted the various eccentric characters that one can expect to encounter over the course of the game and was a feast for the eyes in terms of pure graphical prowess – and it teased the return of a major character from the first entry. Two members of the development team discussed the game’s development, which has been ongoing for several years. Pre-alpha gameplay footage was also shown off, taking place in the in-game city of Ganesha. Joseph Gordon Levitt was also brought out to discuss how his company, Hit Record, will be collaborating with the Beyond Good & Evil 2 team to help create a variety of creative content to be used in the game. However, no release window was given for the game.

Rainbow Six Siege and its massive, 35 million-person online community were highlighted next, with details given on the next pro league events. These events will be taking place in locales including Brazil and Montreal. A documentary, Another Mindset, was also previewed; the doc looks at the development and continued dedication to the game.

A new entry in the Trials series – known for its wild tricks and equally wild crashes – was introduced next, with an Evil Knievel-style introduction by the game’s director. The game is called Trials Rising and features competitive multiplayer. The presentation also discussed how community members have been involved in the development since the game started production two years ago, and a closed beta for fans will be available later this year. Trials Rising releases for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and, for the first time for the series, on Nintendo Switch, in February 2019.

The Division 2 also saw a big spotlight at the Ubisoft show after having first been shown off at Microsoft’s press show. While the footage shown at Microsoft’s press conference was more gameplay-focused, the trailer here instead took the cinematic approach, showing off what’s become of D.C. after a virus kills off much of the population and society crumbles accordingly. Also announced was how raids will be coming to the game as an endgame challenge for high-level players.

Ubisoft then featured a musical performance from Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, with special focus placed on Donkey Kong, who is being added to the game. The tactical RPG is a mashup between classic Nintendo characters and Ubisoft’s wacky Rabbids mascots and was a surprise hit upon release. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle: Donkey Kong Adventure arrives as DLC for the game on June 26, 2018.

A cinematic trailer for the pirate adventure title, Skull & Bones, also premiered, highlighting the game’s wild open-seas action. The game takes place on the Indian Ocean, following the destruction of piracy in the Caribbean. Some in-game footage was shown off, looking at how players will be able to customize their ships in order to make the most of current weather and other variable situations. Ship-to-ship combat was also highlighted in a demonstration, showing off how players will be able to intercept and board merchant ships. Skull & Bones is set for a 2019 release.

Elijah Wood, known for his acting, took the stage as the creative director of Spectrevision in order to introduce their virtual reality title, Transference. The game is a psychological thriller that makes use of live-action sequences in addition to more standard computer graphics in order to create a world in which nothing really seems 100% real. It arrives in fall 2018.

Space exploration game Starlink: Battle for Atlas was introduced next with a new trailer. The game blends science fiction and space combat gameplay with the toys-to-life trend – players will be able to purchase a physical spaceship that they can customize with accessories that will appear in the game. In a surprise twist, the Starfox franchise will be crossing over with Starlink in another collaboration between Ubisoft and Nintendo. Fox McCloud and his legendary Arwing vehicle will be playable in the game – and their creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, made an appearance in order to promote the crossover. The Starfox characters will be an exclusive Nintendo Switch experience when the game releases in October 2018.

For Honor took the stage next, with a “Starter Edition” being introduced for new players as well as new content being introduced for the game at large. For Honor: Marching Fire will release in October 2018, and will be introducing new factions and characters based on Chinese history. A new four-on-four multiplayer mode, “Breach,” was also unveiled.

Cross-country racing title The Crew 2, which releases on June 29, 2018, with an open beta opening about a week beforehand. The game only got a short amount of time on stage but did see some in-engine footage shown off in anticipation of its release in just a few weeks.

The latest title in Ubisoft’s massively popular Assassin’s Creed series, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, also saw a huge focus to wrap up the show. Taking place in ancient Greece, the title highlighted much of the story that players can expect – as well as plenty of the action on both land and sea. The game is more of a role-playing experience than ever before, and players can expect to partake in an adventure in a land “shaped by the gods” in order to save their family and become the hero Greece needs. Gamers can choose to play as either a male or female character, who they will control for the entire game; regardless of choice, the player character is descended from the legendary hero Leonidas. An extensive gameplay demonstration was given, showing off combat on both horseback and on foot, as well as the level-up and skill tree systems. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey arrives on October 5, 2018.
