On Sunday, January 13, 2019, Marvel strolled into the 24th annual Critics’ Choice Awards to bring home some major awards for Wakanda and the Spider-Verse.

Marvel’s Black Panther secured three awards during the show honoring the movies and TV shows of the past year decided by the Broadcast Film Critics Association and Broadcast Television Journalists Association.

The superhero film secured the award for Best Visual Effects, while Ruth Carte nabbed Best Costume Design, and Hannah Beachler and Jay Hart took home Best Production Design. This adds to Black Panther’s long list of accolades, including Seattle Film Critics Awards, San Francisco Film Critics Circle Awards, and MTV Movie Awards. It was also the third movie to bypass the $700 million milestone at the domestic box office, making it the United States’ third biggest earning movie ever.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse also swung into the award show to nab the award for Best Animated Feature, after having won a similar award at the Golden Globes the week prior. Since it’s debut in December 2018, the film has earned over $300 million at the worldwide box office.

Starring the voices of Jake Johnson, Hailee Steinfeld, John Mulaney, Nicolas Cage, Kimiko Glenn, Liev Schrieber, Brian Tyree Henry, Mahershala Ali, and Zoe Kravitz, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is currently still playing in theaters.
