Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime will be retiring from the company effective April 15, 2019, after more than 15 years at the company and 13 years in his current role, according to a press release from Nintendo. Doug Bowser, currently Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, will succeed Fils-Aime as President of Nintendo of America.

“Nintendo owns a part of my heart forever,” Fils-Aime said in the release. “It’s a part that is filled with gratitude—for the incredibly talented people I’ve worked with, for the opportunity to represent such a wonderful brand, and most of all, to feel like a member of the world’s most positive and enduring gamer community. As I look forward to departing in both good health and good humor, this is not ‘game over’ for me, but instead ‘leveling up’ to more time with my wife, family, and friends.”

Fils-Aime began his Nintendo career in 2003 as the company’s Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing and in May 2006 was named President and COO. His leadership of Nintendo brought the company record-breaking sales for products such as the DS and 3DS handhelds, and Wii and Switch consoles. During his tenure, Nintendo has expanded its physical presence in the U.S. and throughout the world.

Bowser joined Nintendo of America in May 2015 as the Vice President of Sales, and has been Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing since 2016. During his time with the company, Bowser has led the sales and marketing efforts for the Switch console. Previously, Bowser has worked elsewhere in the video game industry, for Electronic Arts.

“It has been my great fortune to work with and be mentored by Reggie for four years at Nintendo of America,” Bowser said. “And rest assured, we will continue to build on his work to evolve and expand our brand, furthering Nintendo’s global mission of creating smiles. There are millions more of those to come.”

In celebration and recognition of his tenure with the company, Nintendo posted a video statement from Fils-Aime on their Twitter account.

“Yep, I’m retiring. I wanted to reach out directly to you, the Nintendo community, because there’s one thing I really want to say – thank you,” he said. “Thank you for your never-ending support, and for your passionate love of Nintendo. And, personally, for giving me a Mushroom Kingdom full of incredible memories that I will never forget, ever.”
