The results are in from Pedigree Comics, Inc.’s just completed April Grand Auction. The auction began the night of Sunday, April 10 and ended the night of Wednesday, April 20, 2016 in the separate Grand Auction section of their website, www.PedigreeComics.com. There were 410 CGC and CBCS certified comic books to choose from and almost every book sold. The total sales was $526,956. There was also a pre-auction sale of a Fantastic Four #45 9.8 Rocky Mountain which brings the total number to $562,956.

“The auction did very, very well. I know this may sound like a broken record but the market is still as strong as ever for high grade, investment quality Silver and Bronze Age Marvels and DCs,” Pedigree President and CEO, Doug Schmell said. Many of the books in the auction sold for above GPA prices and a bunch set a new record sales price. The highlights of the auction were the two X-Men runs with #1-66 in 9.4 and higher plus the 2015 #1 Registry Set of X-Men #94-143 plus Giant-Size X-Men #1, all in 9.8, which sold for amazing prices, much higher than the pre-auction estimates. They also had a phenomenal brand new run of recently certified Hulk comics, such as Incredible Hulk #102-182 and Tales to Astonish #60-101, all in 9.4 and higher, which also had impressive sales.

“I noticed many new registrants on the site and many of them were bidding on these new Hulk comics,” Schmell said.

There were many Bronze Age Marvels in high grade 9.6 and 9.8 and these books also did amazing, exceeding Pedigree’s and the consignors’ expectations, according to Schmell. These 1970s and early 1980s keys show no sign of slowing down. They are the usual suspects like Amazing Adventures #11, Amazing Spider-Man #121, Amazing Spider-Man #129, Astonishing Tales #25, Batman #232, Batman #251, Cat #1, Conan the Barbarian #1 9.6, Daredevil #168, Giant-Size X-Men #1, Green Lantern #76, Incredible Hulk #141, Incredible Hulk #181, Iron Fist #14, Iron Man #55, Marvel Feature #1, Marvel Premiere #15, Special Marvel Edition #15, Star Wars #1, Werewolf By Night #32 9.4, and X-Men #94. They continue to sell at GPA and above GPA prices and set new sales records as well. “I want to thank all of my customers who bid and purchased books in this auction and I want to thank all of my consignors as well,” Schmell said.

Pedigree Comics is now accepting consignments for their upcoming June Grand Auction. The sooner you consign your books the more exposure they will receive. Pedigree promotes and advertises each auction and sends periodic newsletters to all of their over 22,000 customers announcing the auction items. Pedigree also offers cash advances for quality consignments so check the site for consignment instructions and get your books in now.

The higher the value of the comics sold in a Grand Auction, the more money the consignor takes home under Pedigree Comics’ Climbing Scale as follows:

There are three easy ways to consign your books to any of Pedigree's June Grand Auctions. The only criteria is that the books must be CGC or CBCS graded and worth no less than $100. If you have high grade raw books that you want to have certified and sold in the Grand Auction, you can utilize Pedigree’s Raw To Riches Consignment Service, in which they will have your books certified under their account and will lay out all the CGC or CBCS grading fees in advance for you (refer to the website and their Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide advertisement for all the details of the Raw to Riches Consignment Service).

To consign you can ship your books directly to their offices in Wellington, Florida. They will inventory, scan, and upload each book into the Grand Auction listing. The books will be listed under your personal account and you will receive email notification at the conclusion of the auction with a list of every consigned book that sold along with the winning bid made.

Email the scans of the books you wish to consign directly to them at DougSchmell@pedigreecomics.com. They will format and upload each scan onto their server and then put each book into the Grand Auction listing. Use a .jpeg format with the resolution set at 72 and the pixel width at 550 for optimum clarity. If you do not have a scanner you can use a digital camera.

You can upload your own scans, item information, book descriptions and reserve amounts, if any, by utilizing their Automated Consignment System. Just register onto the site and login, click the “Customer Page” tab under “Your Account” and then click “Consignments” (under the “Auctions” heading). You will then be able to enter the Pedigree Comics Consignment Management System and list your own CGC and CBCS certified books and magazines. Pedigree will receive an email once you have uploaded the scan and book information for each individual item into the system and they will then review the information imparted for accuracy. The items will then be added to the Grand Auction listing to be bid on. You will be amazed how simple it is to use the Automated Consignment System.
