On September 10, 2016, Heritage Auctions is offering a selection of items for “The Greatest” Muhammad Ali. The Heritage Sports Collectibles Auction will be held at ha.com with extended bidding until 10 PM.

Two of the most impressive pieces in the sale are the trunks worn in the Rumble in the Jungle victory over George Foreman in 1974 and the WBC Heavyweight Championship belt earned for the fight.

“With the recent passing of Muhammad Ali, we have received telephone calls from collectors all over the world seeking important pieces from his life and career,” said Chris Ivy, Director of Heritage Sports Collectibles. “We are proud to answer with this, the most significant Ali auction ever assembled.”

The auction features 79 lots, which will be sold in chronological order, representing a biographical journey in his life. It begins with training gloves from Ali’s Golden Glove amateur days in Louisville, Kentucky, when he still went by Cassius Clay. There’s a handwritten letter sent to Life Magazine in 1964 addressing his conversion to Islam and the gloves worn by Sonny Liston when he lost to Ali.

There are fight worn trunks, gloves, and robes from fights with Floyd Patterson, Chuck Wepner, and Ken Norton, plus the mouth guard Ali spit out after his defeat by Trevor Berbick in 1981. There are fight posters, such as the only known poster from Ali and Norton’s “Broken Jaw” bout, programs, and special LeRoy Neiman artwork.

“If you are among the billions of Muhammad Ali fans on the planet today do yourself a favor and visit the online auction listing. It’s a virtual museum of Ali history,” Ivy said.

Additional highlights are the 1965 Edward J. Neil Memorial Award, Rumble in the Jungle print inscribed to Angelo Dundee in 1974, program and ticket stub from Rumble in the Jungle, Muhammad Ali fight worn shoes from the Earnie Shavers Bout in 1977, a fight worn robe from 1978 Leon Spinks II fight, and Ali’s Athlete of the Century ring from 2000.
